Steamed Chocolate Cake

Memories of a chocolate cake my mom and I enjoyed on a trip to Malaysia.

Warm, moist, and decadent, best enjoyed with a scoop of ice cream or chocolate sauce.


Ingredients

DRY BOWL

  • 70g all purpose flour

  • 1/8 cup (12g) cocoa powder

  • 1/4 cup (25g) milk powder

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1/4 tsp baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

WET BOWL

  • 1/4 cup (60g) sugar
  • 1/8 cup + 1 tbsp (40g) vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup (60g) water
  • 1 (40g - 45g excluding shell) egg

ADDITIONAL

  • 1 tsp vinegar

Directions

  • Whisk together dry ingredients in a "Dry bowl"

  • Whisk together wet ingredients in a "Wet bowl" until sugar mostly dissolved

  • Mix contents of "Dry bowl" and "Wet bowl" until just combined and smooth (Do not over mix)

  • Add vinegar and mix until just combined

  • Transfer the batter into an oiled glass or ceramic baking dish

STEAMING

  • Pre-heated steamer: 20 minutes
